SUCCESSFUL FOR GENERATIONS

Tradition & innovation since 1865

The Eckelmann group of companies has had its main office in the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg since its beginnings in 1865, with strong links to the hanseatic-commercial roots of the metropolis on the River Elbe. This long-established company is managed today by the fifth and sixth generations.

Generation 6: R. Patrick Eckelmann (date of birth 1977)

At the beginning of 2005 Patrick Eckelmann represented the sixth generation in the group of companies. After completing his vocational training and internships in shipping and banking, this qualified business administrator learned the ropes from the bottom up. Today Patrick Eckelmann is managing director of the environmental business segment in the Eckelmann Group.

Generation 5: Robert M. Eckelmann (date of birth 1950)

In 1974 Robert M. Eckelmann, trained as a shipping and bank clerk, joined the management of the family business. In 1979 the company structure was changed and it became a public company, Robert M. Eckelmann has been its Chief Executive Officer since 1982. This traditional barge company has developed into a widely diversified service group.

Generation 4: Kurt Eckelmann (1916-1994)

Kurt Eckelmann decided to develop the land-side and worked very successfully towards his objective of creating a business to handle containers. The company was extended into the tank cleaning and tanker shipping business, which became the basis for the disposal and recycling business segment.

Generation 3: Carl Robert Eckelmann (1880-1948)

As Carl Robert and Cäsar Eckelmann took the helm at the company in 1902 they continued with more innovations. The unpowered raked hopper barges were replaced by box hopper barges. In 1948 the hopper barge fleet reached a tonnage of 5500 tons, along with four tugs and a launch.

Generation 2: C.J. Lorenz Eckelmann (1847-1900)

In 1872 Cordt Eckelmann brought his son Carl Johann Lorenz into the company: Three short years later he handed over the management of the business to him. C.J. Lorenz managed the barge company with great success. He was also involved in the Hamburg stock exchange, expanding continually.

Generation 1: Cordt Eckelmann (1812-1880)

In 1865 the company founder Cordt Eckelmann built his own unpowered wooden barge, laying the cornerstone for the family business which later became Carl Robert Eckelmann. Over the generations the Hamburg barge company has become a widely diversified service provider.
